This is a beautiful story about a mom how lost her child to suicide. I really like how direct and honest she addresses the significant issues the USA is facing with the stigma around mental health and the lack of resources that are available to people struggling with mental illness. How much lack of education can be so detrimental as people just don’t want to have a conversation about depression suicide and mental illness. She proposes solutions, she didn’t stop living after she faced such tragedy. Instead she focused her energy into an amazing cause, and thus making a difference in the world.There were two things about this book I didn’t like, and this is the reason why I gave 4 stars, but out of respect for the author and that if Nuçi I prefer not to disclose. In general, inspiring poignant story.

She has opened up and shared her life, her heart and soul with us-through tragedy; she has brought us hope, faith and strength.
Her dedication and courage and tenacity to pursue her dream has given rise to a Safe Space for young musicians, survivors of suicide and most importantly, connected the youth suffering from any mental illness to therapists and psychologists.
My son has used that Safe Space when he was in a “baby band.” Later, when I lost him to suicide, that same space and Linda gave me the courage and hope to go on and find purpose again in living.
She has a deep insight into the state of Mental Health, the stigma and shame.
Linda is an inspiration and “My Hero.”
Beside my own mental illness, many family members are afflicted with various diseases including alcohol/drug dependence, depression, and schizophrenia and I think that many people know someone who has something like this in their lives whether it's themselves or a friend or loved one. That's how common it is. And it's still a stigma to admit to it.
I think this book rips into the fabric of a stigma. It's a gripping and heart dripping story weaved with horrific unbearable catastrophe but beauty and ultimately HOPE. And we take the bumpy road of her journey with her. To have faced tragedy straight on and planted flowers all over it, Linda is both an amazing writer and innovative woman. A conqueror. And a mother who, under the heartbreaking loss of her son is still a positive force for making it better for others that are suffering.

“A Beautiful Here” is a journey of hope and despair, of anguish and tears but ultimately, one of restoration (literally) that eventually aids in Linda Phillips’s own recovery.
Not to say that this book doesn’t have its share of humor; Ms. Phillips adds her own brand of levity giving the reader a chuckle at times when describing her relationship with various individuals and situations she’s encountered on this journey. I think she knew we needed that and she was right.
If you think it’s not possible to survive the suicide of a loved one, then you need to read this book. Ms. Phillips describes the stigma attached to suicide, depression, and the various other mental illnesses (and, yes, even to the grieving families!). This is call to our nation to take mental illness out of the closet and place some of this country’s massive wealth into mental health resources, many of which she provides in the book.
If there is a bright spot in “A Beautiful Here,” it’s the birth of Nuçi's Space, a health and resource center for suicide prevention and a safe place where musicians, like Nuçi (the author’s son), have access to professional support and guidance. We don’t know if the center could have saved Nuçi when he’d reached that crossroad in his brief life, but certainly countless others have survived since its inception.
Ms. Phillips’s altruistic accomplishments have benefited the community at large, and in the crossroads of her own life, she has allowed us to walk in her path, one of regained strength and peace.
In “A Beautiful Here,” Linda Phillips tells the moving story of the life and death of her son, Nuçi, and his legacy. The author shares with readers her son’s joys, his passion for music, as well as his struggles with depression and mental illness, which led to his suicide at age 22.
The book describes how the family learned to cope with their unimaginable loss and grief, and then to draw upon their experience to found Nuçi’s Space, with the goal of saving other families from similar tragedies.
Located in Athens, GA, Nuçi’s Space is a safe haven for musicians, a place where they can create, compose, and practice. Those facing mental health problems can also receive counsel and treatment. For the community at large, Nuçi’s Space provides a supportive environment that fosters the talent and creativity of the musicians in their midst.
Going beyond her own experience, Linda Phillips focuses attention on the broader issue of the lack of coherence in our society’s mental health policies and procedures, the critical shortage of funding, and the general failure to recognize the crisis of mental illness.
“A Beautiful Here” provides a powerful example of how one person’s vision and determination, supported by other caring people, can make a significance difference in addressing the mental health needs of a community and creating new hope for better outcomes.
Despite its subject, this is not a depressing book. Ms. Phillips tells her story with humor and unflinching candor. In vividly recalling Nuçi’s life and his personality, as well as discussing his death and its aftermath, the author preserves her son’s legacy while also giving readers a fascinating and inspiring experience.
